Karna Joy Higgins, 86, of Ryan Avenue, passed away the evening of July 1, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.Born June 11, 1928 in Illinois, she was a daughter of William Howard Drake and Helen Olson Drake.She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald L. Higgins, whom she married June 16, 1951.She was a graduate of Shenango High School and was employed as a bookkeeper for Fassinger and Sons until the age of 80.Karna enjoyed new and exciting things. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, gardening, crafts, and occasionally painting.A founding member of Calvary Independent Church, she was a member of the church choir, helped with Vacation Bible School, was an AWANA leader, and was highly involved in the church missionary work.In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Joel Woods of Loren, Ohio, and Carolyn and Kevin Ging of Beaver, PA; one sister, Barbara (Rev. Robert) Brown of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents.There will be no calling hours.A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, July 6, at 12:30 p.m. at Calvary Independent Church, 424 E.
