Katherine Aliene Byers, 91, of Avalon Springs Nursing Home, Mercer, formerly of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 7, 2011 at her residence.Born June 7, 1919 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Edgar Doty and Margaret Ella Bentley Sherbine. She was married to David Richard Byers who preceded her in death in 1988.Katherine was a homemaker and enjoyed her family. She was a member of the Grove City Alliance Church.Katherine is survived by one son, Rev. David E. Byers, Sr. of Martinsburg, WV; two daughters, Margaret Ann Noah and Jacquelin Mae Smith, both of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers; David and Edgar Sherbine; and one sister, Sarah Clark.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, from 2:00-5:00 pm. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Williamson of Grove City Alliance Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
