Katherine A. Stokes, 89. of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of March 2, 2019 at Clen-Moore Place. Born March 22, 1929 in Rural Valley, PA, she was the daughter of William Alex Shoop and Nevada (Pizor) Shoop. Katherine was preceded in death on February 11, 2002 by her husband of 55 years, Edward L. Stokes, whom she married September 21, 1946. She was employed as a clerk for Westgate Bakery in Union Township and was a member of Evangel Community Church. Among her interests, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen A. Exposito of Levittown, PA; one son, Edward L. Stokes, Jr. of New Castle; one sister, Delores Cummins of New Castle; two grandchildren, Francis E. Exposito, Jr. and Matthew Stokes; and four great-grandchildren, AJ Exposito, Jake Exposito, Wyatt Stokes and Skyler Stokes. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, William and Richard Shoop. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, from 5:00-8:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 10:30AM at Evangel Community Church, 1530 Harlansburg Road, New Castle, with Rev. Robert Strobel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
