Obituary

Kay E. Schaas, 68, of Plank Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of August 8, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born February 21, 1945 in New Castle, she was a daughter of William and Elizabeth Broadus Ford. She was a 1963 graduate of New Castle High School. Kay was employed as a Certified Nurses Assistant with the former Almira Home and Silver Oaks Nursing Home. She was a former member of Eastern Star and enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Kay was a member of the former First Christian Church and was previously a Sunday school teacher at Mahoningtown Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Forkey and Mary (Tim) Wynn all of New Castle; two sons, Richard (Tammy) Schaas of Volant and Mark (Gina) Schaas of Wampum; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and her friend and companion, Jim McCummins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert Ford. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug 11, 2013, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp. Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.
