Kenneth Louis McFarland, age 91, passed away the morning of October 28, 2011 at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh.A lifelong resident of New Castle, Ken was born on September 13, 1920 to the late Robert and Martha Nelson McFarland.He married the former Jessie Mae Brown in 1945. She survives.He was a 1939 graduate of Harlansburg High School and served in the U.S. Army both in Alaska and in the European theater during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Ken resumed his employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad. Through the course of his career, he rose from fireman to engineer, and retired from Conrail in 1981.Ken faithfully attended the First Christian Missionary and Alliance Church of New Castle. He placed his faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of his sins and his wife and family are confident that he is now in glory with his Savior.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses; Keith and Brenda McFarland of Apex, NC, Dennis and Nancy McFarland of Reedsburg, WI, and Jean and Ken Carson of Beaver Falls, PA; one sister, Erma Crowe; ten grandchildren, Cameron, Seth and Skye of North Carolina, Kendall and Bryce of Wisconsin, and Nicholas, Peter, Molly, Beth and Scott of Beaver Falls; and one great-grandson, Korey, of Wisconsin.Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gaylord and Raymond McFarland; and one sister, Gertrude Graham.Family and friends will be received at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011,from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James D. Carson will officiate.
