Kenneth L. Mitchell, Sr., 88, of Shenango Township, passed away the afternoon of August 23, 2022, at UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born June 17, 1934, in New Castle, he was the son of Archie Robert Mitchell and Winifred "Winnie" (Sumpter) Mitchell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Matilda (Barton) Mitchell, whom he married September 26, 1953. After attending New Castle schools, Ken worked for the McElwain Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership as a body shop manager for 35 years. He continued part time employment with the dealership for the service department as a driver until the age of 84. Ken enjoyed being outdoors, including hunting, gardening, yard work and spending time at his camp in Tidioute. Spending time with his family was what he enjoyed the most. He was a member of Castlewood Alliance Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Cindy Mitchell of New Castle; two sons, Kenneth L. (Barb) Mitchell of New Castle and Allen R. (Laurie) Mitchell of Puryear, TN; one sister, Dorothy Alexander of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Colamarino, Justin (Leighann) Mitchell, Krista Mitchell (Luke McKim), Kayla (Luke) Gensmer, Greg (Monica) Mitchell, Tim Mitchell and Tyler Jones; and ten great-grandchildren, Santino Colamarino, Vittorio Colamarino, Conor Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, Brody Mitchell, Sam Gensmer, Lilly Mitchell, Beau Mitchell, Kenzie Jones and Carter Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Mitchell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27, from 1:00-3:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 3:00 with the Rev. James O'Hara officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
