Kenneth Robert Reed, 89, of 140 Lakewood Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 3, 2011 at Jameson Hospital.Born August 4, 1922 in New Castle, he was a son of Ed and Elvira McConnell Reed.He married Shirley A. Wimer on August 22, 1945. Ken was a graduate of Eastbrook High School and served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during WWII.He enjoyed carpentry and woodcarving, especially a variety of ducks. He also liked gardening and reading.Ken was a member of Castlewood CMA Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda L. and Richard Dean and Donna J. and Clancy Emery, both of New Castle; one sister, Mary Snyder of Sun City, Arizona; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry B. Reed, two sisters, and one brother.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at the Castlewood Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle. The Rev. James O'Hara and Pastor Gary DeWitt will officiate.Burial will be in Eastbrook Presbyterian Cemetery.Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
