Kenneth Dean Sherman, 91, of New Wilmington, died the afternoon of April 22, 2010 in Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare with family by his side.Born July 7, 1918 in Wickliffe, Ohio, he was a son of William Grover and Mildred Hay Sherman.He married Elizabeth Double on August 14, 1942. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2004.A Sergeant in the Army during WWII, he served as a combat photographer. He received the Bronze Star after twenty six assault landings in the South Pacific, serving in New Guinea, Borneo, the Philippines and the occupation of Japan.He was active in the Jekyll Island (Gerogia) Tennis Club. Among his many interests he enjoyed cars, photography, reading, and corresponding with his many friends. He was particularly known for his beautiful handwriting.A member of New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, he participated in the Odd-Friday Fellows Bible Study. He was also an associate member of the Jekyll Island Presbyterian Church.He is survived by one daughter, Wendy Simon of New Castle; two granddaughters, Betsy Weingartner Boyd and her husband Colin of New Wilmington; Susan Weingartner Patton and her husband Dave of New Castle; five great grandchildren, Morgan, Elizabeth and Mary Boyd of New Wilmington; Will and Sam Patton of New Castle.In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Dean Sherman, Jr.There will be no calling hours.A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lisa Hickman and Rev.
