Leo R. Shreckengost, 79, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 26, 2016 at UPMC Jameson.
Born August 13, 1937 in Oil City, Pa., he was the son of Amos and Mary Parsons Shreckengost .
Surviving at home is his wife of 59 years, Garnet E. Stitt Shreckengost, whom he married on March 5, 1957.
After his high school graduation, Leo served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a jet mechanic. While in the Air Force he completed two years of college courses.
Leo was employed for 37 years with Chamber Motors where he worked on auto body repairs. He then worked with NAPA Auto Parts for 17 years until his retirement.
In addition to being a member of the Masons and the C6's, he was also a Boy Scout leader. Among his many interests, Leo was a train enthusiast, an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, and loved building model airplanes. He often listened to country music, Merle Haggard being his favorite country artist.
He was a member of the former Second U.P. Church on Countyline Street.
In addition to his wife Garnet, he is survived by one daughter, Robin Barletto of New Castle; three sons, Leo "Kevin" (Louann) Shreckengost of Statesville, NC, David (Terry) Shreckengost of Mt. Jackson, and Steven A. Shreckengost of New Castle; one brother, Gary P. (Dorothy) Shreckengost of Wampum; four grandchildren, Louis Regna, Jr., Christian Shreckengost, Ashley Regna and Crystal Regna; four great-grandchildren, Pheonix Regna, Gionna Regna, Lillith Regna and Sephiroth Regna; and in addition, his wonderful caretaker, Missy, and her son Laron.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
There will be a one hour visitation on Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at 4:00. The Rev. John Texter will officiate. Military rites will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
