Leona Jean Griffiths, 100, formerly of New Castle, passed away October 12, 2017 in Montgomery, New York. Born July 13, 1917 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Russell B. and Ethel Mae Crane. She was preceded in death on May 6, 2002 by her beloved husband of 68 years, John P. "Jack" Griffiths, whom she married October 11, 1933. After completion of high school, Leona, alongside her husband Jack, were the owners and operators of Griffiths Market for over 50 years. Leona was a member of the Triple M Sunday school class at First Baptist Church and a choir member for many years. She served as a Past President of Rose Avenue PTA and New Castle Elementary PTA. She is survived by one son, John M. Griffiths of Montgomery, New York; and two grandsons, Jonathan and Kyle Griffiths. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Russell J. Crane. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Yergan officiating.
