Obituary

Leonard Riggans, 90, of Union Township, passed away the morning of February 12, 2018, at his residence. Born in New Castle on January 17, 1928, he was the son of the late John W. and Louanna Hall Riggans. Surviving at home is his wife, Ruth E. Pitzer Riggans, whom he married on November 12, 1949. Mr. Riggans was a private of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. He worked with the Baltimore/Ohio Railroad, on the Section Gang, then for CSX. Often in his spare time Leonard loved to fish. He also was a member of Jehovah's Witness. Along with his wife, he is also survived by one niece, Louanna (Gary) Locke of New Castle, and several other nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers; James, Melvin, Ronard, Charles, Jack and Maynard Riggans, and four sisters; Velera Lyons, Edith Tomon, Verona Schetrom and Delora Hosler. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday February 14th at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will immediately follow visitation, with Karl Lutgens of Jehovah's Witness officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
