Leora Mae Heckathorne passed away the afternoon of Jan. 10, 2023, at her home with her family at the age of 96.

She was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Plain Grove where she lived her whole life. She was the daughter of the late John Perry and Dorothy Katherine (Brown) Shaner.

On Feb. 26, 1947, she married Eugene R. Heckathorne. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2001.

Leora was a graduate of Plain Grove High School. She was a lifetime member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church. She served on the Lawrence County Board of Elections for over 50 years. Leora enjoyed playing the violin and her guitar, that she bought for her 90th birthday. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed sending cards to friends and family for all occasions. Leora was an amazing communicator through her social media account. She was a Words With Friends "Champion" on her iPhone and was hard to beat. She will always be remembered as the "Cookie Grandma", for her delicious orange cookies.

Survivors include her children, June Randall of Hermitage, PA., Elaine (Jim) McGivern of Lecanto, FL., Robert W. (Rosemary) Heckathorne of Lake City, FL; one sister, Catherine Thomas of Georgia; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Leora was preceded in death by one brother, Walter E. Shaner and son-in-law, James Randall.

Visitation will be held on Sat. Jan. 14, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.

A service will take place immediately following visitation, at noon, at the church, with Rev. Dr. Christina Hosler, officiating.

Burial will be at Neshannock U.P. Cemetery.
