LeRoy Dale Hoover, 71, of New Castle, passed away the evening of August 14, 2010 at his residence.Born October 12, 1938 in Brockton, Mass., he was the son of the late Leroy E. and Edith I. Shaffer Hoover. He married Doreen Y. Lewis on December 5, 1987. She survives. His former wife, Linda Kosciusko, also survives in New Castle.He graduated from Shenango High School in 1956 and from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1960.Mr. Hoover retired from the Neshannock Township school district in 1994 after 33 years of teaching Earth Science and U.S. history.He was a member of PSEAR and NEAR. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting. He was a member of the Shenango China Hunting and Fishing Club, the Unified Sportsman of Pennsylvania and BASS. He was a Steeler enthusiast and also enjoyed studying his Bible.Mr. Hoover was a member of Shenango Presbyterian Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Jennifer Lynn Hoover and her companion Darla Caylor of New Castle; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Jennifer Hoover and James and Michelle Sizer of New Castle, Gary and Katie Sizer of Ashville, NC; one sister, Carol Mielke of McKinney of Texas; and seven grandchildren.Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A celebration of life for Mr. Hoover will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Amy Na will officiate.
