Leroy F. Lee Thompson, 64, of Slippery Rock, Pa., passed away the night of February 23, 2017. Born May 8, 1952 in Butler, Pa., he was the son of Curtis and Frances Zonarich Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Wurtinger Thompson, whom he married July 16, 1977. After his graduation from Knoch High School, he attended Butler Community College and received his degree in engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering. Lee was employed with Universal Refractories where he was the President of Operations. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #69 and the Moose Lodge of New Castle. Lee loved being outdoors fishing, traveling, vacationing, and was an avid hunter. He often enjoyed baking and cooking for his family while they spent time with each other. An avid Steelers fan, Lee also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by his faithful and loving black lab, Harlee. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two daughters, Angela Thompson Clark and her husband Jemmell, and Laura Thompson, all of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Nathan Thompson of Butler and Nicholas Thompson of Slippery Rock; one brother, Larry (Mary Jane) Thompson of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Karen Buss of Butler; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Nagel officiating.
