Obituary

Leslie E. Wellington Bliss, 71, of New Castle, passed away at her residence the morning of May 18, 2010.Born Oct. 4, 1938, in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of James Walker and Gladys Frances Hubbard Wellington. She married Earnest E. Bliss on Oct. 8, 1954 and they have been married for 55 years. A homemaker, Leslie enjoyed cooking and baking. She was Lady of the Year for the Jay-Cee Janes in Houma, LA, she was in charge of the March of Dimes campaign in Honey Brook, PA for several years, was a brownie troop leader and a member of the Red Hat Society. Leslie was a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.In addition to her husband, Leslie is survived by six daughters and five sons-in-law, Laura E. & Richard Strebel of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Robin D. and Scott Zaborowski of Kingston, PA, Tina L. and Stephen Jones of Cincinnati, OH, Marsha A. and Christopher Leighty of Mercer, PA, Deborah S. Bliss of New Castle and Valerie K. and Thomas Rinear of Cincinnati, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Earnest E. III and Bonita Bliss of Whitehouse, OH; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Rev. Kenneth Van Kurin of Canby, OR, Gerald Van Kurin of Cooper Plains, NY, Richard Van Kurin of Millegville, GA, Eloise Jacobus of Corning, NY, Winifred Beebe of Corning, NY, Jan Crooker of Caton, NY, Evelyn Gridley, of Caton, NY, David Wellington of Corning, NY, James Wellington of Corning, NY, Maynard Wellington of Avoca, NY and Carolyn Bates, Troupsburg, NY; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ernest Van Kurin, and Donald Van Kurin; and a sister, Glenora Martin.Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2010 at the funeral home. The Rev. Keith R. Black will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be sent to The Earnest and Leslie Bliss Leadership Scholarship, University of Toledo, 2600 Bankcroft St., Toledo, OH.
