Obituary

Lester Paul Hauschild, Jr. 84, of New Castle, PA, died January 21, 2020 in New Wilmington, PA. Mr. Hauschild, born September 21, 1935 in Greensburg, PA, was an Investment Counselor, and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, an Eagle Scout, and a committed community volunteer. Mr. Hauschild was a member of numerous boards including the Board of Trustees for First Presbyterian Church (and past President), the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts (and past Treasurer), New Castle Community YMCA (and past President), and Moraine Trails Council Boy Scouts of America. He was active with the Lawrence Club and the New Castle Country Club. A long-time supporter of the College of Wooster, Mr. Hauschild was an Alumni Trustee for six years, and served on three campaign committees, including the National Steering Committee for the Independent Minds campaign. Mr. Hauschild was the recipient of many awards, including the Jack Butz Humanitarian Award ('06), the Melvin Jones Fellow ('02), and the Sara L. Patton Stewardship Award (The College of Wooster, '17). Upon receiving the Butz award Mr. Hauschild said "Community service is the rent we pay for our time on earth. I want to be remembered as a good tenant." Mr. Hauschild was the son of the late Lester Paul and Margaret McKee Hauschild. Preceding him in death was his brother, William L. Hauschild. He is survived by his six nieces, Wendy W. Holmes and husband Tommy of Amelia Courthouse, VA; Jamie Wood and husband Brian of Kill Devil Hills, NC; Kelly Moody and husband Rich of Newtown, CT; Karin Hauschild and husband John Carwile of Riga, Latvia; Peggy Matthews of Onancock, VA; and Loui Beacham and husband Tim of Kitty Hawk, NC, as well as 15 great and six great-great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 26th at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27th at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson Street. Interment will be at Whitehaven Memorial Park, Mayfield, Ohio.
