Lillian Kennedy, age 94, lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away the night of February 8, 2024, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born in New Castle on June 30, 1929, she was the daughter of Floyd C. and Effie (Wimer) Smock.
Lillian graduated from New Castle High School in January 1947 and from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in January 1950. She received her master's degree from Westminster College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Kennedy, whom she married in June of 1960.
Lillian taught for over 40 years for the New Castle Area Schools, mostly at Rose Avenue and Thaddeus Stevens. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a teacher's honorary society, for over 50 years.
A faithful member of Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church, Lillian was also a member of the Clen-Moore Prime Timers Bible Study for many years.
Among her many interests, she enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and especially embroidery.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Kennedy of Boca Raton, Florida; two stepchildren, Robert (Jane) Kennedy of Butler, PA and Beverly (Don) Horton of Grovetown, GA; stepdaughter-in-law, Joan Kennedy of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Rob), Timothy, Matthew, Mark, Gretchen (Scott), Donald (Meg) and Amanda (Brian); and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Joseph, Alexander, Samuel, Grace, Lilee and Kennedy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one stepson, J. Darrell Kennedy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1166 Church Alley, New Castle, PA.
