Lloyd C. "Jiggs" Michaels, 89, New Castle, passed away the morning of November 26, 2021, at his home in Hickory Township. Born February 4, 1932, in New Castle, he was the son of Lloyd E. and Helen (Michaels) Michaels. He was preceded in death on April 8, 2019, by his beloved wife of 63 years, Rose M. (Pavelek) Michaels, whom he married February 4, 1956. Lloyd served his country in the Army as a tank commander from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was employed as a dock worker with McLean Trucking until his retirement. A real outdoorsman, Jiggs loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Coachman's Club. Among his other interests, he liked listening to old time country music, doing word search puzzles and especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by one daughter, Suzanne (Edward) Sankey of Ellwood City; one son, Darryl (Jeanenne) Michaels of New Castle; a daughter-in-law, Christin Michaels of Mercer, PA; four brothers, Stewart "Butch" (Sandy) Michaels of Mars, PA, Russell "Bub" (Kim) Michaels of New Castle, Richard "Dick" (Norma) Michaels of Ellwood City, and Carl (Carren) Michaels of Portersville, PA; one sister, Martha Daugherty of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Michaels-List; one son, Jason Michaels; and one sister, Irene Michaels. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 3, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 Friday with the Rev. Matthew Bupp officiating. Burial will be alongside his wife in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
