Lloyd M. Thompson, 93, of New Castle, formerly of Orchard Way, passed away the morning of November 25, 2014, at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born May 26, 1921, in Wurtemburg, PA, he was the son of Ralph M. and Edith Wilkins Thompson. He married Marie E. Alben Thompson on June 26, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1994. Lloyd graduated from New Castle High School in January 1940. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985 after 32 years of service. Lloyd was a charter trustee of the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, an Order of Builders Advisor, a member of N.A.R.F., National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Valley of New Castle Consistory, Mahoning/Lodge of the Craft #243, Shriners, and the Transportation Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason. A member of Highland Presbyterian Church, he belonged to the Friendship Class. Lloyd is survived by a daughter, Barbara M. Wilkins of New Castle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Alma Thompson of Pulaski, and David W. and Patty Thompson of Lynchburg, VA; a brother, John L. Thompson of Oxford, OH; five grandchildren, J. Joshua (Marti) Bruening, Sarah M. (Lee) Worthington, Joel M. Bruening, Heather M. (Jonathan) Owen, and Seth D. Thompson; and three great grandchildren, Cale Worthington, Amara Bruening, and Kadence Owen. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation will be 2-5:30 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Friday, November 28, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. The Rev. Richard Kinney will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
