Louis R. Berkheimer, 85, of 108 Clear Water Drive, Ellwood City, formerly of New Castle, passed away the morning of February 11, 2011 in Ellwood City Hospital.Born June 4, 1925 in New Castle, he was a son of Louis R. and Martha E. Pacyna Berkheimer.He married Jean E. Baker on October 14, 1950. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2010.Louis was a graduate of Valley Forge High School and a member of the National Guard.He was the manager of Eckerd's Drug Store. He owned various businesses including the Tinder Box in New Wilmington, Baskin Robbins in New Castle, and Puff-n-Stuff in Dayton, OH. He retired from C.E. Ward & Oswald Co.Louis was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed watch making, furniture building and pipe collecting.He was a member of several organizations including the Mahoning Lodge of New Castle; Shriner's International; New Castle Consistory; Red Cross of Constantine; Royal Order of Scotland and the Lawrence Commandery No. 62, Knights of Templar.He was Protestant faith.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Harold Brown of Portersville; one son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Jaci Berkheimer of Lisbon, OH; three grandchildren, Laurie Tomak, Amy Arrigo and Steven Brown; two step-grandchildren, Angie Lewis and Shawn Lewis; and seven great grandchildren.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Masonic service will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at 3:45 p.m. by the Mahoning Lodge.A funeral service will take place on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Todd Custer of Christ Presbyterian Church of Ellwood City will officiate.Burial will be in Castle View Mausoleum.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
