Obituary

Louis V. Collins, 91, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of May 24, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver, PA.Born December 11, 1922 in New Castle, he was a son of Andrew T. and Grace Billeter Collins.Surviving at home is his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Hupko Collins, whom he married June 20, 1949.He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Air Force, holding the rank of First Lieutenant. He was also a navigational instructor.Lou was employed with the former First Western Bank for 26 years where he was the Vice-President of Lending, retiring in 1988.He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Ellwood Rotary Club.Among his many interests were hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Lou took pride in the fact that he built their family home. Most important to him was spending time with his family and grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah Fleming and Renee (William) Barron of New Castle; two sons, Mark (Deborah) Collins of New Castle and Gregg (Valerie) Collins of Mars, PA; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. Earl Collins.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. John Yergan.Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 984 W. Maitland Lane, New Castle, PA 16105.
