Louise Smith Boyd, 89, of Portersville, passed away the morning of December 4, 2012 at the home of her daughter. Born on December 28, 1922, she was a daughter of the late James Palmer Smith and Retta Johnson Smith. Preceding her in death on January 8, 1999, was her loving husband, Joseph W. Boyd, whom she married January 28, 1946. Louise was a graduate of Wilmington Area High School and the Maison Fredric Beauty School.She began her employment with the Ethel Peterson Beauty School, then bravely traveled across the country by train to work as a riveter with Douglas Aircraft during World War II.Later, she worked along side her husband in the Joseph W. Boyd Funeral Home located in Harlansburg. In earlier years Louise was a member of the Princeton Memorial Church. Later she joined Harlansburg Presbyterian Church where she was active in the church choir and organizing the weekly floral arrangements. She enjoyed being a member of the Harlansburg Garden Club. Surviving are her two daughters, Kathryn Boyd Dean of Princeton and Susan L. Ayres and her husband William of Harlansburg; and a son, Joseph G. Boyd and his wife Terry of Portersville; six grandchildren, Susanna Dean Peoples and her husband Marc, Beth Ann Dean-Stewart and her husband Elmer, Gareth A. Boyd and his wife Taryn, Joseph M. Boyd, Seth W. Ayres and Cindy, Kathryn E. Ayres Zwolenik and her husband Jack; and eleven great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Russell Smith and J. Victor Smith; and four sisters, Mary Smith Bobst, Margaret Smith McKnight, Elinor Smith Kenehan and Jane Smith Bees.Visitation will be held on Frida, Dec. 7, 2012, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Brady Randall will officiate. Burial will be in Mt.Hermon Cemetery.
