Lowell E. ""Joe"" Crowder, 90, of 261 Jervis Road, Grove City, PA, passed away the evening of February 23, 2014 at Grove City Medical Center, Grove City, PA.Born July 16, 1923 in Liberal, Kansas, he was a son of Rolla and Ola Crowder.Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty C. Ferguson Crowder, whom he married on March 24, 1951.He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. During his service he was stationed in California, Texas, and 3 years in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service he attended barber school in Decatur, Illinois.He was a federal government employee, working in electronics technology at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey.Joe and his wife lived several places over the years, making him a lifetime member of the American Legion, Elks, and VFW in Illinois, New Jersey, and in Mesa, Arizona. He was also a member of the Masons when living in Hammond, Illinois, and a hospital volunteer both in Arizona and New Jersey.Among his many interests, Joe enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, and mowing his yard.Prior to his membership with Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona, he was a member of Hammond United Methodist Church from 1957-1961 where he was the MYF youth counselor and taught Sunday school.In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his daughter-in-law, Lana Crowder, of Grove City, PA; one brother, Cliff Crowder of Siloam Springs, ARK; one brother-in-law, Michael (Polly) Ferguson of Hammond, ILL; one sister, Leilia Emery of Illinois; one sister-in-law, Juanita Ferguson of Mesa, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Anthony Crowder; 4 brothers, Leonard, Raymond, Willford and Darrell Crowder; and one sister, Lorraine.A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA, and will be officiated by Rev. Willard Morse.Memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway #2, Hermitage, PA 16148.
