Luella R. Long, age 102, of New Castle, passed away the evening of August 10, 2020, at Quality Life Services – New Castle. Born March 2, 1918, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Jeanette (Shoaf) Rigby. After both of their passing in 1920, Luella was raised by Thomas and Susan Rigby Phelps. In 1942, she married her husband, John Long. He preceded her in death. Luella was a graduate of Shenango High School. She worked at G.C. Murphy/Ames as a payroll clerk. She loved to garden and spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a member of Central Christian Church and more recently, First Christian Church. Luella is survived by a sister-n-law, Edwyna Phelps of Julian, PA. Along with her parents and husband, Luella is preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, George, Phillip, Louis Phelps and Harry Rigby; two sisters, Anna Wiggins and Eleanor Burns. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be offered to the City Rescue Mission or the New Castle Public Library.
