Lulu B. Bivens, 91, of New Castle, passed away the evening of January 22, 2011 in the Overlook Medical Clinic.Born January 15, 1920 in New Castle, she was a daughter of John C. Gillette and Margaret Stuart Gillette Kilch.She was married to John P. Bivens who preceded her in death in 1985.She was a graduate of Mt. Jackson High School and a member of Croton United Methodist Church.Lulu served as a Sergeant during WWII in the WAC Detachment.Among her many interests were crocheting and flower gardening. She enjoyed music, playing the guitar and singing.Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul R. and Yvonne Bivens of Columbus, OH, John W. Bivens and William H. Bivens, both of New Castle; and one brother, Francis Gillette of New Castle.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Gillette and three sisters, Opal Carnes, Ruth Raub and Doris Johnson.Visitation will be Thursday, Jan 27, 2011, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Ron Wanless will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites.
