Luvinia LaDuke, 80, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 25, 2016 at Edison Manor. Born August 11, 1936 in Altoona, Pa, she was the daughter of John E. and Mary Luvinia Airhart Shannon. She was preceded in death on January 23, 2016 by her husband of nearly 55 years, Richard E. LaDuke, whom she married on January 28, 1961. Luvinia was a Psychology student, attending various colleges. She was employed as a teller with the National Bank of Detroit as well as being a homemaker. An active member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, she participated in Bible studies and prayer groups. She received an award from the then Bishop Donald Wuerl from the Pittsburgh Diocese. In addition to writing and painting, Luvinia loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Mary L. (Dale) Turner of New Castle; one son, David T. (Julie) LaDuke of North Sewickley, PA; two sisters, Delphine Shannon and Jerrilyn Shields, both of Altoona, PA; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard LaDuke, Jr.; one daughter, Suzanne Copeman; one brother, Jerome Shannon; and one sister, Rita Dittsworth. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Father William Siple officiating.
