M. Gayle Patton, 86, of 5104 Matthews Road, Edinburg, passed away the morning of June 24, 2011 at his residence.Born March 21, 1925 in New Castle, he was a son of William G. and Amy Yard Patton. He married Margaret "Peg" Morris on April 28, 1946. She survives in Edinburg.He was a veteran of the Navy and served his country during WWII.Gayle was a machinist for Wean United for 38 years, retiring in 1986.He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.Gayle was a member of Grace Bible Church, serving as a trustee and deacon.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Karen Patton and Kevin and Sherry Patton, all of Edinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and John Winland of Salesville, OH; one daughter-in-law, Victoria Patton of San Diego, CA; one brother, Dr. Charles and wife Shirley Patton of New Castle; sixteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Rick Patton and Russell Patton; one sister, Ruth English; and two brothers, Robert L. Patton and W. Paul Patton.Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2011, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. John Coomber will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Bible Church, 1450 Old Princeton Road, New Castle, PA 16101.
