Mackenzie L. Shay, age 20, of New Castle, passed away during a military training accident the evening of Oct. 22, 2022.

Born Feb. 18, 2002, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Gary A. and Tina Lee (Ayersman) Shay, Jr. They survive at home.

Mackenzie was a student at Slippery Rock University. She joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17, serving with the G C0128th BSB Unit with the rank of Spc. She worked as a Safety Manager employed by Gray Construction. Mackenzie enjoyed working out at the gym, taking her dog for walks, traveling and hanging out with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Mackenzie is survived by one brother, Gary A. (Bridgette) Shay, III, of Slippery Rock, PA; one sister Patricia A. (Joshua) Woloszyn of New Castle, PA; one niece, Madison Woloszyn; two nephews, Isaiah Woloszyn and Gary A. Shay, IV; grandparents, Don and Sylvia Leishman and Gary Sr. and Lynda Shay.

Mackenzie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Paul Ayersman, a cousin, Brandon Reno, and an uncle, Paul Ayersman.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Life Baptist Church, 3414 Route 208, New Wilmington, PA 16142.

A funeral service will immediately follow visitation on Tuesday at 7:00 PM with Pastor Jason Doolittle officiating.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
