Margaret Ella Jackman, age 86, long time Neshannock Township resident, passed away in the early morning of September 17, 2023, at Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington, PA.

Born October 12, 1936, in Linesville, PA, she was the daughter of Charles and Viola (Dennis) Wigton.

She was a 1954 graduate of Linesville High School, where she was an honor student and active in many school activities. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she was selected for the Pennsylvania All State Chorus. One of her favorite activities was cheerleading for the basketball team. Margaret maintained lifelong friendships with the girls on the cheerleading squad and other classmates for over 70 years.

Margaret enjoyed being a homemaker, baking and cooking delicious meals for her family, attending family reunions, and enjoying family vacations as she and Joe raised their girls. Margaret lived life to the fullest, always involved in several activities from the time her daughters were young when she coached their youth softball teams. She loved to read and solve crossword puzzles. Margaret loved bowling and participated in leagues for many years. An avid golfer, Margaret was a member of the New Castle Country Club Ladies Golf League and proudly won the Club Championship in 1980. She had traveled the world, but mostly enjoyed her golf trips with her dear friends to Hilton Head and Florida. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her four grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them and making memories.

She was a longtime member of King's Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Shenango Presbyterian Church in her later years.

Margaret will always be remembered for her love of telling stories about her many life experiences. These stories live on today as her family and friends recall her quick wit and humor.

It wouldn't be a complete holiday season without enjoying one of Margaret's delicious homemade carmels. Her family and friends have been delighted to receive the gift of carmels over the years. This family recipe has been passed on to her two daughters.

She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Robert) Rickard of New Wilmington and Amy (Jay) Schmidt of Mansfield, Ohio; her former husband, Joseph Jackman of New Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Janet Wigton of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Sarah (Scott Taylor) Schrote and Emily (Andy Jones) Vincent of Mansfield, Ohio: Andrew (April Aven) Rickard and Max (Jennifer Cickelli) Rickard of Pittsburgh, PA: four great-grandchildren, Brinley Vincent, Cameron Schrote, Alexandra Rickard, Andrew Rickard, and another great-grandchild due early October. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cherished friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Wigton, Herbert Wigton and Paul Wigton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, from 11:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A Memorial Service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:00 at the funeral home.
