Marian Jean Covert, 92, formerly of Hunters Woods, passed away the afternoon of December 31, 2016 at Jameson Care Center. Born August 22, 1924 in New Castle, she was the daughter of William A. and Marion C. Brandon Stevenson. She was preceded in death on November 23, 2014 by her husband of 71 years, Earl R. Covert, whom she married on September 7, 1943. A graduate of New Castle High School, Jean was a switch board operator with Bell Telephone and was also employed with Westminster College. She was a member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she attended the Covenant Seekers Sunday school class. She is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Dennie) Masser of Spring, TX and Sandra (Craig) Holmgren of Marine on St. Croix, MN; two sons, Thomas A. (Janet) Covert of New Castle and William E. (Brenda) Covert of Cary, NC; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharren King and one grandson, Anders Holmgren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Yergan and Rev. Philip Covert officiating. Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery.
