Obituary

Marion I. Matthews Schreiner, 84, of 122 Ashberry Lane, passed away the night of January 30, 2013 at University Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Born May 14, 1928, in New Castle, she was a daughter of John W. and Edna E. Coulter Forrest. She married Homer Matthews, Jr. on February 18, 1950 and after 48 years of marriage, he passed away on July 11, 1998. She subsequently married Warren Schreiner on April 25, 2004 and he passed away April 11, 2008. She was a 1946 graduate of New Castle High School. Marion was employed by Untch Construction and the Rugh Insurance Agency as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Wimodausis, Order of Eastern Star #105, and United Methodist Women. She was a former member of Paws & Taws and Silver Sneakers. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Marion was a member of King's Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her two sons, Herbert H. Matthews, III and his wife Carol, of Willoughby Hills, OH and Gary W. Matthews and his wife Michele of Chester, MD; three step-daughters, Lynn Castens of Mishawaka, IN, Karen and Nicholas Gentile of New Castle, and Janet and David Book of Wampum; a brother, John T. Forrest of New Wilmington, PA; a sister, Jane Mackey and husband Ernest of North Chesterfield, VA; 5 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 4 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A memorial service will be held Saturday immediately following visitation at 12:00 at the funeral home. Rev. Jodie Barron-Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to King's Chapel United Methodist Church, 861 Old Pulaski Road, New Castle, PA 16105 or charity of donor's choice.
