Martha E. McHattie, 82, formerly of New Castle, more recently of Plainfield, IL, passed away Jan. 11, 2022. Born Dec. 28, 1939, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of Clifford and Edith (Kuhns) Bishop. On Sept. 12, 1958, she married her husband of 60 years, Ernest R. McHattie, who preceded her in death Jan. 30, 2019. Martha was employed as a salesclerk at The Christmas House and other retail stores in Volant. She was an active member of the Friends of the Library, an avid quilter, and loved spending time with her family. Martha is survived by her sister, Becky Serpe of IL; daughter-in-law, Victoria McHattie and granddaughter, Moire McHattie. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori McHattie; her son, Douglas McHattie; one brother, Raymond Bishop; and one sister, Melinda Carilli. A one-hour visitation will be held Saturday, January 22, from 10:00-11:00 followed immediately by an 11:00 funeral service at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
