Martha J. Reed, 91, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, passed away the afternoon of August 11, 2013 at Jameson Hospital.Born November 5, 1921, in Knox, PA, she was a daughter of Laura Hess. Preceding her in death on January 20, 2000 was her husband, Paul Reed, whom she married on November 5, 1972. She was a graduate of Lamerteen High School in Salem and was employed as a secretary with the New Castle Transit Authority. Martha was an active member and deacon of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed puzzles and traveling, as a member of her travel club. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Barnett of Canfield, OH; a nephew whom she raised, Frank "Fritz" Braatz of Fredonia, PA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Barnett. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 12:00 Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Brady Randall. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, 385 Old Route 19, New Castle, PA 16101.
