Mary Ann Cangey, age 82, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 13, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Born June 5, 1944, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Harry A. and Ann (Flack) Valle.

She was preceded in death on Dec. 6, 2005, by her beloved husband of 38 years, Joseph W. Cangey, whom she married Feb. 4, 1967.

A graduate of New Castle High School, Mary Ann attended St. Francis School of Nursing. She gained employment with Giant Eagle as an office manager until her retirement in 2006.

Her care and compassion for others lead her to volunteer for several organizations including Challenges, American Cancer Society, Southern Care Hospice and St. Camillus Church. Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Mary Ann was a member of St. Camillus Church, Holy Spirit Parrish.

She is survived by one son, Michael Alan Cangey of New Castle; two brothers, Robert H. (Judy) Valle of Amherst, NY and John R. Valle of New Cumberland, PA; three nieces, Joan Marie Kershaw, Julie Valle and Louann Rossman; and two nephews, Jeff Valle and John Valle.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Anthony Cangey in 2019.

A Blessing Service will take place on Friday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

She will be laid to rest near her husband at Castle View Cemetery.
