Mary Ann McConnell, 86, of 4689 Old Mercer Rd., Volant, passed away the evening of October 20, 2010 at her residence.Born April 20, 1924, in Erie, she was the daughter of Walter James and Anne I. McConnell Long. She married Kenneth E. McConnell on August 28, 1954. He passed away April 25, 1997.Mary Ann was a graduate of East High School of Erie and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Interior Design. During World War II, Mary Ann was employed with Bell Telephone out of Erie and California. She also worked at tuning crystals for army radios. Mary Ann was employed as an interior decorator both in Erie and New Castle. Later she worked for the Division of Vital Records as a receptionist, retiring June 6, 1989. Mary Ann was a member of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of PARSE, AFSCME Chapter 13, the Volant VFC Women's Auxiliary, and Bell Telephone Pioneers.Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Janice McConnell, and her companion Thomas Teleis, of Volant, a son and daughter-in-law, James and Claudia McConnell of Volant, and two grandchildren, Thomas McConnell and Kellyann McConnell.In addition to her parents, husband, and two step-mothers, Fannie Bonnell Long and Lydia Barringer Long, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Logan Long.Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev.
