Obituary

Mary Freeman Anttila went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2015 in Chengdu, China. Mary was on a China/Tibet tour with her husband Sam, to whom she had been married for more than 49 years. Mary Loved to travel, which was quite evident by the many places in the world she and her husband had visited in their years together. Mary was a loving, faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a passion for cooking, often creating her own special dishes. She enjoyed working with garden plants; she grew her own herbs to use in her cooking, and she loved spending time with her husband and her church family. She especially enjoyed frequent talks with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Before moving to Florida, Mary owned several businesses including three beauty shops and two restaurants in New Castle. She earned her college degree from Erie Business College, majoring in tourism and travel. After graduation she taught at the college for three years before moving to Florida. There, she taught at the Faith Christian school until suffering a heart attack, which forced her retirement. Mary was born April 25, 1944 to Ebbin and Elizabeth Freeman in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and a sister. Surviving her are her husband Samuel in Florida, brother Charles in Kansas, son Albert O'Conner in Indiana, daughter Yetive Almas in New Castle, and five grandchildren: Sheena Lynn Himes, Adam Samuel David Himes, Jonathan William Thomas Himes, Stephanie LeeAnn Himes, all in New Castle and Ashley Renee Wright in Washington, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Maximus Gabriel Wright and Lillian Patricia Himes. Mary touched many lives during her days on earth, and she will be sadly missed by everyone who knew this fine woman. Heaven has lit one more candle to welcome her home. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Rd. New Castle, PA. The rites of Christian burial will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church at 1302 East Washington Street New Castle, PA. with the Reverend Sean Walters officiating.
