Obituary

Mary L. Boak, 104, passed away the evening of December 23, 2012 at the Overlook in New Wilmington, PA. She previously resided at Majors Manor and was a resident of Slippery Rock Twp., Lawrence County. She was born November 16, 1908 in Lincoln Place, Allegheny County, PA, a daughter of the late Harry and Ida Coates Keis. As a child, the family moved to Crawford Co. and she was raised on the family farm. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Westford, PA and subsequently The Chicago School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse before her marriage. She married C. Everett Boak on January 15, 1938. He died on September 24, 1992. Together they operated the Orchard Slope Farm in Slippery Rock Twp. She was a 4-H sewing leader for many years. Mrs. Boak worked for 35 years at the Lawrence County Fair Home Economics Department. She was a member of the Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church and a member of the former Willard Grange. Mrs. Boak is survived by two sons, Audley Boak of Hubbard, OH and Robert Boak and his wife Sherry of New Castle; three grandchildren, Naomi Boak, Derek Boak, and Dylan Boak; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Shartle of Marienville, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two step-daughters, Dorothy Boak and Jean (Charles) Kelly; five brothers, Harley, Frank, James, Daniel and William Keis; and two sisters, Hilma Saunders and Grace Mong. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 Friday, December 28, 2012, at the funeral home. The Pastor John R. Loch will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
