Mary C. Calabrese, 91, formerly of Meadowview Blvd., passed away the morning of January 9, 2015 at Southpoint at Jameson Personal Care Home.
Born October 16, 1923 in New Castle, she was a daughter of John J. and Theresa Izzo Russo.
She was preceded in death on March 20, 1996 by her husband, Samuel M. Calabrese, whom she married May 17, 1948.
A 1941 graduate of New Castle High School, she also attended Dress Design School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mary enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, and her trips to Mountaineer Race Track and Casino. Most important to Mary was her family and the time she spent with them.
She was a member of Mary Mother of Hope, where she also volunteered for Bingo.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Grebenz-Clark and Gloria (James) Smith, both of New Castle; two sons, David (Lisa) Calabrese of Monroe, Michigan, and Samuel M. (Amanda) Calabrese, Jr. of North Carolina; three brothers, Father Francis Russo of Washington, DC, Father Reginald Russo of Pittsburgh, and Vincent Russo and his companion Candance, of New Castle; one sister, Irene Scaramazza of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Michael Frabotta, Nicholas Frabotta, Brian Grebenz, Steven Grebenz, Sara Calabrese, Mara Calabrese and Maria Calabrese; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Evanoski; and one brother, Anthony Russo.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of Hope, with Mary's brothers, Fr. Francis Russo and Fr. Reginald Russo, officiating.
Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.
