Obituary

Mary Jo Riggans Jackson, 68, of Portersville passed away the afternoon of January 27, 2017 after a long battle with illness at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler. Born in New Castle on July 15, 1948, she was a daughter of Charles and Dorothy Jones Riggans. She earned an associate degree from Youngstown State University in hospital food service. She was employed at Jameson Hospital for 32 years in the billing department. A past member of Lawrence County Master Gardeners, she was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed scrapbooking. She attended Presbyterian Church of Prospect. Survivors include one son, Charles E. Jackson of Medina, Tennessee; one brother, Charles O. Riggans of Edinburg, PA; one sister, Lylia M. Riggans of Portersville, PA; and one grandson, Nick Jackson of Nashville, Tennessee. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a niece, Leslie Ann Riggans. Visitation will be from 12:00-5:00 on Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 5:00 on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Steven Cort of Presbyterian Church of Prospect officiating, The family wishes to thank Dr. Fazioli and his staff; VNA Butler; and VNA Inpatient Hospice for their kindness and compassion in taking care of Mary Jo.
