Mary Lou Wilson, 87, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of April 15, 2022, at The Grove in New Wilmington surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on February 12, 1935, in Fair Oaks, PA, to the late Foster and Edna Doyle Mellott. She had to be rescued by boat as a child during the 1936 Pittsburgh flood. Mrs. Wilson graduated from Ambridge High School and later attended nursing school. She married Richard Wilson who preceded her in passing.
Mary was a dedicated mother to her sons and provided a wonderful home for her family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was an avid reader. Her hobbies included embroidery and collecting cookbooks. Mary had a strong Christian faith and taught Sunday school.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her two sons, Gregory A. Wilson (Kathleen) and James Wilson, both of New Castle.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Wilson and a stillborn son; two brothers, Howard and Patrick Mellott; and one sister, Dorothy Chester.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 4-6 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Carl Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Eastbrook United Presbyterian Cemetery.
