Mary Macaluso,102, New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Jameson Hospital, New Castle, following a brief illness.
Born September 23, 1912, in Charleroi, PA, she moved to New Castle as a child with her parents John and Rosalie Testa and siblings. She attended public schools there and later worked as a seamstress before marrying Pete Macaluso in 1933. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together in North Beaver Twp. where they raised three sons, Nick (Jean) of Economy Boro; Richard (Nancy) of New Castle and Larry (Pamela) of Charlotte, NC. After the death of her husband, she resided at Vista South Apartments then at Jameson Care Center for the past five years.
Surviving in addition to her sons and daughters-in-law are 10 grandchildren: Marc Macaluso, Superior, CO; Raymond Macaluso (Adelina), Cleveland, OH; Rick Macaluso (Jammie), Portland, OR; Yvonne (Keith) Jones, Canonsburg, PA; Kristin Macaluso, Niles, OH; and in Charlotte, NC; Michael Macaluso, Carlyn (Derek) Lawson, Lisa (Micah) Karaman, Nicole (Tracy) Rogers, Janiese (Matthew) Slyman. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Dorothy Pozzuoli, New Castle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pete in 2001, one sister Freda Offi in 2000 and one brother, Joseph of St Louis, MO in 1971.
Friends will be received on Sunday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA from 2-6 pm.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 am, Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bessemer, PA with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Bessemer, PA.
Mary is to be remembered as one who greeted everyone with a smile, a hug, and a kiss. She extended abundant love to her family who remember her pride of cooking and baking for them, her laughter, and her amazing recall of stories of the past. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched over many years. Mary expressed often the loving care that she received from the Jameson Care Center staff, and the Macaluso family is very appreciative.
