Mary Lorene Miles, 98, formerly of Ellwood Road, New Castle, passed away the morning of November 11, 2013 at Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony, PA. Born November 3, 1915 in Fredonia, Pa., she was the oldest of 17 children of Urban and Martha Schiestle McCann. She was preceded in death on July 7, 1995 by her husband of 55 years, Clarence Bert Miles, whom she married June 8, 1940. Mary enjoyed being a homemaker, taking care of her husband and their six children. She also loved music and was a singer in years gone by. She was a member of the Leesburg VFW Ladies Auxiliary and member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Among her many interests were quilting and sewing. She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth A. Bodziach, M. Jean Dean, and Judith E. Haggerty, all of New Castle; three sons, Joseph P. Miles and George P. Miles of New Castle, and Robert H. Miles of Slippery Rock; one brother, Gerald McCann of Greenville, Pa; two sisters, Louise McKnight and Delores Ranelli both of Sharpsville, Pa; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Private visitation and funeral services were held with family and friends.
