Mary E. Mitchell, 79, of Union Township, passed away the evening of January 19, 2019 at her residence. Born July 22, 1939 in New Castle, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Clements) Book. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Carl R. Mitchell, whom she married September 9, 1967. Mary was a 1957 graduate of New Castle High School. She was employed for 11 years by the City of New Castle as a school crossing guard until her retirement in 1999. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carla (Elmer) Hill and Tammie Mitchell all of New Castle; one son, Craig (Eva) Mitchell of Aliquippa; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Jenna and Jakob Hill and Braydon Mitchell and 5 sisters, Edna Anderson, Barbara Warsing, Betty Jane Uder, Carol Book and Sandra Hudack. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Donna Stanich. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 7:00 pm at the funeral home with the Rev.
