Mary A. "Miff" Peterson, age 90, of New Castle, died the afternoon of October 31, 2018 at Shenango On The Green Senior Care Home, after a short illness. Born November 18, 1927 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Louis Beckert and Bessie Harshbarger Beckert. She married John K. Peterson on November 25, 1948, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her youngest son, Brian L. Peterson. She was one of the founding members of Calvary Independent Church. She was active in many church ministries including the Lois Missionary Guild, choir, tract distribution and other provider and hospitality ministries. She especially enjoyed hosting visiting missionaries in her home. She was a prayer warrior for all, especially her family and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws. Alan D. and Sharon Peterson of Green, Ohio and Bruce C. and Patricia Peterson of New Castle, PA. In addition to her sons, she is survived by five granddaughters whom she loved dearly, Christene (Mike) Snodgrass, Kim (Rick) Garrett, Lauren, Lindsey and Andrea Peterson. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. Mary worked as a Bell Telephone Operator and Executive Assistant at New Castle Refractories before retiring to be a full time homemaker. Her sweet disposition and gentle, loving personality will be remembered by all who knew her. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 3rd, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle . A service will be held immediately following visitation at 3:30 PM with the Rev. Charles Fombelle of Calvary Independent Church, officiating. Burial will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
