Mary Jane Treese Getty Phipps, 88, of New Castle passed away peacefully on November 6, 2011 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, PAMary Jane was born in Montgomery County, PA on March 1, 1923 to the late George and Grace Hadden Treese. She graduated from Montgomery Township High School and went to work in sales. She worked for Sears, McGill Motors and Kay Jewelry all in Indiana. She married her first husband Lynn Getty. They owned and operated Getty's Corner Lunch in Arcadia, IN in the 1940's. She lived there for a number of years and the last 30 plus years living in New Castle with her second husband, Charles Phipps. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mary Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Castle, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Masonic Lodge and president of the Stroke Club. She spent many years as the head of her high school reunion's planning committee. She also taught macrame classes. She and Charles spent many years enjoying their houseboat on the Beaver River. She was well known for her ability to make friends and leaves many friends behind.Mary Jane is survived by her three sons and daughters in-law, Ron (Vivian) Getty of Maryland, Ed (Karen) Getty of Maine and Dennis (Peggy) Getty of Pensylvania; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Bishop and Laura May Dishong; and a brother, Harold Treese. Her late husband's children also survive her; Charles Phipps Jr. and Ruth Ann Phipps.Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and one brother, Valgene Treese.Visitation for Mary Jane will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2011. from 10:00 a.m. til noon at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PAFuneral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at the funeral home. Officiating will be The Rev.
