Matthew R. Smith, 70, of Neshannock Township in New Castle, was called home to be with the Lord the afternoon of September 29, 2012 at Jameson Hospital.Born on July 13, 1942, in New Castle, he was a son of M. Reed Smith and Bette Fix Smith.He married the former Linda Beals on September 13, 1963.He was a 1960 graduate of New Castle High School and was employed as an electrician for 39 years with Youngstown Hard Chrome.Matthew enjoyed trips to the ocean. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and his faithful companions, Kramer and Ben.He was a member of the Church of Genesis, where he was active in helping with the food pantry.In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by two daughters, Lori (Mark) Guthridge of Boardman, OH and Marcy Smith of New Castle; a son, Matthew (Mary) Smith of New Castle; and six grandchildren, Ian, Adam, Mark, Jonah, Abigail and Elizabeth.He was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Genesis.
