It is with great love, sadness, and regret that we announce, in his 87th year, the passing of Maynard "Pete" Riggans.Maynard was born on October 6, 1922, in New Castle, to the late John and Louanna Hall Riggans.He married his loving wife Bette A. Brown Riggans on July 12, 1941, she survives. Mr. Riggans served in the Air Force during World War II. Maynard retired from Nickles Bakery in 1974 and started Riggans Auto Service, at his residence, in that same year. As a musician, he loved playing his guitar and mandolin. He loved his annual trips to Las Vegas and flying to his daughter Bonnie's home in California. Mr.Riggans also enjoyed helping his wife with the daily crossword puzzle. Maynard always had a funny story or joke to tell that would bring smiles to everyone's face. He will always be remembered for his generosity and his wonderful sense of humor by those who knew and loved him.In addition to his wife, Maynard is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Carl of Chico, CA and Patty and Ken Hutchinson of New Castle; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Marge Riggans of New Castle; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, all of which he nicknamed; two brothers, Leonard and Jack Riggans; and one sister, Verona Schetrom of New Castle.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bette Hilton; three sisters, Velera Lyons, Delora Hosler and Edith Toman; four brothers, Jim, Ronard, Melvin, and Charlie Riggans, all of New Castle; and a great grandson, Jason Hilton, Jr.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
