Melvin J. Krebs, Sr., age 81, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 7, 2015 at Jameson Hospital.
Born June 14, 1934 in Ellwood City, he was a son of John K. and Esther O. Magee Krebs.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol M. Clark Krebs, whom he married June 10, 1960.
Melvin was a private in the U.S. Army, serving during peacetime.
He was employed with Blair Strip Steel for 20 years until his retirement. In earlier years he worked along side his father running an Esso Gas Station in New Castle.
Melvin had many interests including deer hunting, truck and semi pulls and building model cars. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV and was a big fan of John Wayne.
He attended Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Melvin J. Krebs, Jr. and his wife Sharla of New Castle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Weichman officiating.
Military rites will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
