Melvin LeRoy White, age 78, of New Castle passed away the morning of November 9, 2016 at home.
Born in Maysville, PA on January 12, 1938, he was a son of Paul Samuel and Rhetta Matson White.
On April 16, 1960 he married the former Donna Rae Bowser, who survives him at home.
He was a graduate of Elders Ridge High School. In 2000 he retired from the Laurel School District where he worked in the maintenance department. Prior to that he was employed as a welder at PA Engineering in New Castle and at Mathews Conveyor in Ellwood City; as an insurance salesman with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.; and in the maintenance department at Pullman-Standard Car Mfg. Co. in Butler.
He was a member of the Coachmen's Club and the First Church of God. At church he was active as a board member and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was a volunteer fireman with the Hickory VFD.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sally (Charles) Boyer and Tracy (Steve) Wicks, of New Castle; five grandchildren, Brooke (Tim) Fazekas, Bethany (Ed) Wymer, Matthew Boyer, Jeffery Gross and Jonathon Gross; a great granddaughter, Bristol Wymer; and a great grandson, Elliott Fazekas.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a daughter, Wanda Lee White; and brothers, Donald, Edward, Elmer, Glenn and Danny.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 Friday at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA and 10-11 Saturday at the First Church of God, Euclid Avenue, New Castle with a funeral service to be held at 11 AM on Saturday at the First Church of God with Rev. Gary Swogger, retired interim pastor with Church of God, officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
