Merl W. McDeavitt, Jr., age 70 of Ellwood City, died the evening of October 6, 2019, at his residence. Born on Nov. 5, 1948, in New Castle, he was the son of Merl W. McDeavitt, Sr., and Ethel M. (Mills) McDeavitt. He married his beloved wife, Irasema McDeavitt, on May 17, 1997. She survives at home. Mr. McDeavitt was in the roofing industry for 40 years. For 30 of those years, he was the former owner of Slippery Rock Roofing. He was a Shenango High School graduate and enjoyed hunting and four-wheeling. What gave Merl the most joy in life, was spending time with his family, especially attending the ball games of his grandchildren. He was a member of Fountain of Grace Church in Youngstown, Ohio. Along with his wife, Irasema, Merl was survived by one daughter, Lyn (Michael) Pasquarello of New Castle; one son, Daniel McDeavitt of Ellwood City; one daughter-in-law, Mary McDeavitt of New Castle; two step-sons, Daniel (George Ann) and Antonio (Jessica) Monroy of Ellwood City; one sister, Marcia Pittman of Gloucester, VA; and seven grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents and one son, Ryan McDeavitt. Visitation will be held at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, on Thurs. Oct. 10th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joe Herr, officiating. Burial will be at West Liberty Cemetery.
